"Spider" Moloney's 200th Game

North Ballarat captain, full-back and games record holder Shaune "Spider" Moloney celebrated his 200th Club Game in the Victorian Football League yesterday with a convincing win over Casey.

As well as his leadership role, "Spider" had the task to tame one of the competition's most powerful forward, Brad Miller.

Congratulations "Spider" on a fantastic achievement in playing 200 Games for the North Ballarat Football Club.

1. What has been one major highlight of the 2010 season so far for you?
Finishing 2nd on the ladder, considering we lost a few players at the start of the season was a proud highlight. Our team still stuck together, played well and made it number two.
2. How does it feel for your team to enter the Finals Series? How did your team get there?
It feels great, we’ve been in the finals for a few years now. We’re really looking forward to the games. Our team’s always stuck close, constantly worked on improving our game plan, never giving up and persevering. We’re won games we didn’t think we would which was a real confidence booster.

3. What significant personal and professional developments have you made since playing for the VFL?
The VFL presents numerous leadership opportunities and allowed us to work with great mentors and role models. I’ve learnt some valuable life lessons as well as improving as a player and work on areas that need development to reach my potential and continue to advance.
4. The VFL is considered the best competition outside of the National AFL Competition. Why do you think the VFL is such an important part of Australian football?
The VFL is unquestionably the BEST of Victoria’s football. It’s at the heartland of Australian footy promoting strong competition   with many AFL reserves part of it so we do play the best of the best.
5. You obviously experience a share of highs and lows during a footy season. What have been the highs and lows? And how have you overcome the lows?
Finishing 2nd on the ladder and only losing three games has been good. We did lose two games we shouldn’t have but we’ve discovered how  to learn from our losses and turn lows into positives so it ends up being a win -win situation when you look at it that way with optimism.
6. Playing footy presents numerous benefits for players and society in general. What are the most illuminating benefits to you?
Gaining discipline, learning how to commit and sacrifice and helping demonstrate the link between hard work and rewarding results.
7. What are your future aspirations and what do you hope to achieve in the next few years?
Well I am coming to the end of my career but I shall be ending it feeling happy and content with where I’ve finished and what I’ve achieved. I won’t be leaving the club entirely as I’ll still be a part of it and help out and contribute to its management and operation.
